Belofte maakt schuld

NOT - Oké: hij heeft iemand vermoord. Maar voor de rest lijkt het me een aardige vent. Hij heeft netjes 911 gebeld, is beleefd tegenover de operator, is geduldig en legt alles een paar (goed) uit. En verder houdt hij gewoon zijn woord: "I'm gonna to kill someone, that's a promise". En zo gebeurde het ook.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A Kansas City landlord accused of murder will stand trial in Platte County Circuit Court.

Prosecutors presented their case Monday in a preliminary hearing for 55-year-old Webber Douglas Gilmer. Gilmer is accused of killing 28-year-old Brian Harrell on March 16, 2007 during an apparent dispute at an apartment.

As part of their evidence, prosecutors played a tape of a 911 call from a man who identified himself as Gilmer. On that tape, the caller states he is getting ready to kill someone.

Evidence presented at the hearing indicated earlier in the day Harrell, his wife, and his brother were attempting to remove belongings from the wife’s apartment. Gilmer was the landlord and refused to allow them access to the apartment.

Police responded to the initial dispute and referred everyone involved to the Kansas City Human Relations Office. Everyone left the scene.

The Harrells returned to the apartment later in the day, and Harrell forced entry into the apartment because the lock had been changed. Gilmer called the police, saying he was getting ready to commit a crime.

Prosecutors allege moments later Gilmer shot Harrell multiple times. Officers from the Platte County Sheriff’s Department and the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department found Harrell dead at the scene from apparent gunshot wounds.

Kansas City police arrested Gilmer at the scene. Police later found a gun in his garage matching the caliber of shell casings found allegedly used in the shooting.

If convicted of first degree murder, Gilmer could be sentenced to life in prison without parole. He remains in custody in lieu of a $1 million cash bond. Gilmer is scheduled to be arraigned in Platte County Circuit Court on July 10.
